How we work

In Your Eyes Ezine has been an independent music publication since 1999. In more than twenty-five years we have published tens of thousands of reviews, interviews and features, always in the same spirit: writing about music and underground culture honestly, without compromise.

How we choose what to review

We choose out of interest, not convenience. Labels and artists send us proposals and material, but we cover the underground scene without genre filters — metal, punk, electronics, black music, big names and the most obscure self-releases alike. If a record is worth writing about, we write about it.

Independence

Nobody pays us to write what we write. Our reviews are free of pressure from labels, press offices and advertisers. We give our honest opinion, including when it is inconvenient. That is the entire point of an independent fanzine.

No advertising: how we fund this

You will not find advertising banners on In Your Eyes. We support ourselves in two ways, both of them stated openly.

The first is our shop — t-shirts, vinyl and books — which is what has allowed this webzine to give away thousands of pieces free for over twenty-five years.

The second is IYEPR, our music promotion agency, through which we put the experience and network built over twenty-five years at the service of bands and artists who share our DIY approach, via targeted newsletters and dedicated websites.

Editorial and commercial work are separate

We want to be unambiguous about this: our editorial work and IYEPR’s promotional services are distinct and independent of each other.

Hiring IYEPR does not secure a review on In Your Eyes, and does not influence the editorial team’s judgement in any way.

We think that stating this plainly matters more than pretending the commercial side does not exist.
